The acting is great, Brendan Fraser and Sadie Sink really do a wonderful job with horrible characters. However, I don’t go to the movies to leave completely depressed and consumed with thinking how evil the characters were to each other. This is a miserable movie. It’s is dark, and depressing, and you really believe Sadie Sink hates her father, which, is the worst part. It made me sad, angry and depressed and the ending was not uplifting, there was no feeling of release or redemption. The whole plot revolves around the father being fat, homosexual, and an absent father. The ending is “well, the fat guy is out of pain and misery” and that’s the only comfort to the end. Horrible plot and movie. I cannot believe it won an Oscar.
