Watched this today with my daughter. There are all kinds of addicts- those addicted to the high, or the escape from reality, while others feel more themselves while using than not. Or enabled to be a functional human using the drug in their systems as backbone.
Dosed does not explore those issues so much as it does one person’s journey experimenting with alternative illegal psychedelic herbal products in her attempts to get clean. The unsaid message of the film is that existing opioid addiction therapy is so woefully inadequate that addicts trying to get/stay sober often turn to other illegal substances to do so. And because those methods are in sanctioned, they remain unstudied. The fact that addicts have to go underground explains the dramatically burgeoning problem of suicides from hopelessness and despair, accidental overdoses, and lives otherwise wasted because governments worldwide chose to criminalize addiction rather than creating effective treatments or even understanding the true mechanisms for addiction in the first place.
