Watson continues the UK television trend of violating the characterizations of classic authors to push forward its diversity agenda. I have been told by those working in British media that if you are a white heterosexual man the chances of getting a lead casting are slim to none, regardless of your past work. The premise is good, the casting is all wrong. Dr John Watson was played brilliantly by Martin Freeman. Morris Chestnut must not have even bothered to watch that series. When the BBC gave CBS the okay to produce this show it was as if they allowed the inmates of the padded room out to play. Simply put, you cannot base a storyline on a classic and then throw away everything that made the classic what it is and expect it to work. It would have been better to give the series another name and another back story, but now it is too late.
