Green Monkey

A masterpiece. A complex plot not revealed until the end. Liked it even more second time watching it. Creative, disturbing, tragic, sexual, intense, yet beautiful in dance, music, and cinematography, and in a strange (toxic) way, love. It leaves you thinking about the complexity of the human mind and the dangerous insanity of some. Limited dialogue leaves it up to the brilliant acting, making the audience piece it all together. Don’t expect to be spoon fed - not for the Hollywood fans. COVID delayed the release of the film but it was worth the wait. Great soundtrack.

Surprised by the success of the first season. So many holes/errors in the plot and it becomes very frustrating to watch as it drags on following unrealistic, ridiculous and unnecessary twists and turns. The focus on not just the suspects but also the grieving family is a refreshing idea, however. The ending is pathetic and contradictory - the time spent building the profile of the killer and the details/timeline of the murder is lost, with total disregard for the work that went into outlaying the elaborate chain of events and details of the crime, developed in the earlier episodes. Well developed plots are constantly replaced by incomplete, senseless ones. The characters, their actions, and basis for their replacement in both the police force and council are contrived, particularly those in the leadership positions in the police force. Contrived and senseless is probably the best way to sum up the whole series.

Brilliant viewing but it’s insulting to the audience that the writers would build a character up to such a high standard yet think that the audience would be convinced for one second that this main character would make such obvious mistakes that led to the particular demise seen in the final episode. Such a character would never hand over something so precious on a platter. Still worth five stars as rarely is the writing or directing perfect in anything. Absolutely captivating and intriguing otherwise.
