Absolutely brilliant performances by all involved. My husband, son and I thoroughly enjoyed it. As history teachers neither my husband nor I were disturbed or surprised by the machinations within the conclave. However, the surprise ending was thought provoking.

The current visual version of the novel is well filmed and full of mystical esoteric references to 17th century Japanese history and the beginning of the Tokugawa Shogunate. That being said, the new version also perpetuates images of mystic stoicism and ethereal destiny of what was a pivotal point in Japanese history. In other words a great story.
