I lived in Oklahoma and Texas from 1981 through 2011. I knew people in the oil patch in both states. I never ever heard of a landman or anyone like the character Billy Bob Thorton plays. Lots of injuries, lots of rough characters for sure but the premise of the show is ridiculous. I couldn't even watch 15 minutes of it. I do recommend the podcast - it is great. If the show is based on the podcast then the show is worse than anyone could imagine. Pass on the show and listen to the podcast.

I loved this movie. I think people are missing the point. A little boy was in a diner in the process of running away from home. Seinfeld sees the boy has his belongings with him and he creates a fairytale about pop-tarts to keep the kid in the diner long enough for the parents to show up. The story itself was funny and terrificly far-fetched but perfect for a little kid. I was reminded of Second Hand Lion and Princess Bride when I was watching. I'm not saying the quality of the tale was as good as those movies but it had that familiar fairlytale component to me. People just need to view the story through the eyes of a 9 year old little boy. The actual heroes of the movie in fact were two little dumpster-diving kids.

Terrible movie, just terrible. I do not like Joaquin Phoenix at all. Dry, boring, one dimensional. His poor acting makes one of the most interesting characters in history boring beyond the pale. ugh, what a waste of time
