I think in general, people who are not emotionally attached to lis 1&2 have given true colors really good reviews. But as someone who loves lis 1&2, I don't find true colors as emotionally gratifying as the previous two. I find the suspense & plot generally weaker and less engaging.
But before starting to jot down my review, I have to say this upfront that I always appreciate and love whatever lis franchise does. So I agree that deck nine really tried their best, and true colors has such genuine intent at heart just as this franchise always does.
*spoiler alert*
1) I wish the exploration of Alex's past and the exploration of the mine could *each* be an individual episode instead of being compressed into that one last episode. I didn't find Alex as relatable or vulnerable until the very last episode when they finally started to dive in her past.
2) Personally I find the song writing and music choice of the first and second lis much better than those of true colors. Sufjan Stevens was such a perfect choice for lis2... and the theme chords in lis1 - suspenseful, sad, but also resolved in the end - was just smart and brilliant.
3) I completely understand why but I just have to say this - I was so disappointed that no one from the previous two lis games showed up or was even mentioned by Steph. I miss Chloe Max Sean and Daniel so much lol. So I was hoping in Wavelengths I could at least see someone from the first 2 main games show up but it still didn't happen. It actually made me really sad lol.
Deck Nine & DONTNOD
I find dontnod taking more risks in bigger plot development which make their games more ambitious, fun, and engaging for me. Meanwhile I find deck nine more interested and attentive to small game development such as the arcade games, larp for Ethan, scavenger hunt game for Steph, etc. How I wish they could make lis franchise together forever - it would be invincible.
AGH READ ME SQUARE ENIX
make sure the next lis would bring back chloe max sean daniel and make me cry ;( I love yall
