the good: this movie is visually stunning. there’s so much creative use of colour and shots. I don’t think I’ll forget this movie solely because of the amazing visuals. I also enjoyed the scene with the alien. the bad: not much really happened, I found myself waiting the whole movie for the plot to pick up. I found the narrative confusing and hard to understand, especially the meta-narrative play thing. the characters are hard to listen to because of their unnatural and annoying way of speaking. I didn’t perceive much emotional depth, the movie felt very “flat” to me. it was pretentious and totally style-over-substance. it’s a shame because I was really looking forward to this movie, and I’d love to watch another movie set in the 50s that’s vaguely about aliens.

this is a great film with an interesting concept. it’s quite gripping. good for fans of cosmic horror, sci-fi, psychological and supernatural films. it takes the idea of a UFO cult and takes it in a completely unexpected direction. it’s creepy and unsettling without needing to rely on tons of gore, shock and special effects - one of the main strengths of the movie is that it leaves certain things to the imagination (especially the more gory elements). the two brothers have a really interesting dynamic. however, i did find that there were some parts that dragged on a little, and imo it would’ve been better if there were more weird events that were creepier leading up to the ending. for me - a solid 8/10.

definitely one of my favourite films of all time! the plot’s interesting, character development and interactions are great, camera work is innovative, and the acting is really excellent. and of course, it’s funny! no scene is pointless - even ones that appear to be on the surface become relevant later. there are also lots of little details and call-backs to earlier jokes that aren’t always obvious, which makes the film interesting during repeat viewings. plus, i live in a village like sandford so i found it relatable on that front. a solid 9/10

it has a really great concept, but unfortunately the execution and film itself is mediocre. i found it quite boring actually, in some parts even cringeworthy. lots of plot holes and things left unexplained. probably about a 4/10 for me.
