Love this show and also love Cook’s Country. I love to bake and was taught by my grandmother 70 years ago. I think I make a great pastry dough which is her recipe using. 2 1/2 Cups of flour, 8 Tbsp. Cold unsalted butter, 12 Tbsp shortening, 1 tbsp sugar, 1 tsp salt. Then for the wet ingredients I use 2 Tbsp vodka, gin, or white vinegar (which keeps gluten from releasing that will cause a tough crust) and 5-6 Tbsp ice water. Makes 2 crusts.
She also made 100’s of fruit pies since she grew everything herself. She taught me to use Minute Tapioca for thickening the fruit. There are recipes on the box. Tapioca is wonderful because it doesn’t have an aftertaste like you can get with cornstarch or flour. Plus, it’s really pretty when cooked with the fruit. Please try it sometime.
