I loved this movie the very first time I saw it. And every time I've watched it since. About 4 times. It has everything. It's a love story in the heart of a mystery that happens in the 19th century as a result of a sci-fi adventure. Tastefully peppered with humour. "No my name is John Carter. I'm from Virginia." "VIRGINIA!" Beautifully styled Mars. Beautiful leading actor and actress. Multiple plots to keep you engaged. A few unexpected twists to keep the story fresh. Good characters. Some parts of the story are not laid out for you in alot of detail. Simple. Thank you for that so that I still can use my brain and imagination. I agree with another reviewer that its simplicity is what makes the movie great. It's a fairly wholesome movie (maybe that turned off a lot of critics) but so charming and engaging you cant help but be intrigued, smile, laugh, and just have a good time. I also like that one of the characters is actually the author of the novel this movie is based on and alludes to the fact that he enjoyed outrageous adventure stories as a young boy. Give this movie a chance and a place in your digital library.
