Shyamalan is a talented director, but I think he should avoid the other disciplines of filmmaking. I give him credit for evoking emotion and tension with such an amateur script, but that show his deft handling of his actors and sets. Harnett is good, and maybe the creepy interaction between him and his daughter was meant to illuminate his character, but it never seems natural. I also was impressed with Saleka Shyamalan’s Lady Raven. The bigger issue is the string of conveniences (contrivances) that propel the silly story - which is made completely ludicrous at the reveal. It’s a shame to see so much talent used so shabbily. Still, if you can truly suspend disbelief, it’s worth a couple hours of your time.
