I wish I had loved this book. I took the time to reread the entire series in anticipation of this one. But instead of finding the same quality, can’t put it down, novel I was used to, I found what can only be described as boring gibberish. Her scenes make no sense and contradict themselves. Mid July in any part of North Carolina is not so cold as to require fires in the bedrooms and creeks so cold that people are freezing post falling in. The old characters have different personalities, new, pointless characters are introduced for no apparent reason. I honestly found myself questioning if DG even wrote it and if she did whether she was losing her faculties. I’m fairly certain no editing was done, or if there was the editor reads at about a 5th grade level as characters were literally introduced as corporal so-and-so and TWO SENTENCES later referred to as sergeant so-and-so. I mean, sure, two sentences is a long time to keep your facts straight. I can’t imagine why it was so hard to keep them straight from one book to the next. Reading “Bees” was certainly a let down after years upon years of waiting and hoping for the story to continue.
