I had a few problems with this book. -the main character is so childish. He acts like a child in how he handles things. He gets jealous when his father and a little girl are friends. He says it “it was all about me”. -the why he acts to is father is disrespectful. His father might have addiction problems but he is still blades father and that is not how you talk to a parent. Even if you are 18. -he does not realize that he is privileged This guy was able to go to a different country like it was nothing. He is not poor and he had people who do care about him. He expects life to be perfect and gets upset when things go slightly south. People go through life worse than him without no parents, no home, no friends, no money. He had it good and does not realize it. -the writing is disrespectful to adopted people. I will say that how he found out was wrong. It was not right that storm announced it. On the other hand, he acts like his life is over. I am adopted and its sad but im ok and i dont complain because i still get a family even if they aren’t blood. He acts like he has no one who cares about him and is very ungrateful. Even if he was better in the end, this is not how you write an adoption story. It is disrespectful and insulting to people who are adopted. Very rarely do people find their parents let alone know their name or where they were born. This is what problematic books are. I do not like that we follow this main character. He does not make me like him and I was so fed up with this book. You can write a book about someone’s life being messed up and them overcoming but this is now it. This was a joke in my opinion. Im very upset that this is a book by such a big author and that many people read this and thought it was ok. The idea was good but the execution was not.
