I was expecting a movie focused on the creation of the atomic bomb, the decision to use it and the realization of moral issues brought up by it. I thought we would see the process from the idea to theory, tests, failures and success in the end. The moral issues were mentioned briefly but without any visual representation of the actual explosion or the horror unleashed to really make you think about it.
Instead, we got a 3 hours long movie about US political shenanigans in the 1950s.
It was way too long. The story could have been told in less than 2 hours. The constant switching back and forth in time made it confusing. I remember asking myself, "is this before or after the war? " The music was overused and obnoxiously loud. At times, it drowned the dialogue. I guess it was meant to create a dramatic effect but it failed miserably in a very annoying way.
Acting was top notch which is the only positive thing I can note.
Overall the movie was disappointing. I do not recommend.
