There are a couple redeeming aspects that earned one star. The sets and CGI are not terrible and in many instances quite beautiful in my opinion. Other than that the show is absolutely a bust. One example of its many issues is how un-elven-like the elves are. The elves in this series are all a bunch of unwise, human-like, emotional characters that look like they got dragged straight out of an 80’s broadway show. I mean seriously could they have used any more hairspray on those wigs? Elves are supposed to be mythical, wise, collected and almost perfect in a way that doesn’t seem human. They truly butchered this aspect. The innumerable liberties that they take with this show kill the lore and magic of such a carefully and masterfully crafted universe. The fandom is right to be angry. The Silmarillion is a very important book. If this show weren’t LOTR I would go as far as to give it three or four stars but they chose to take on Tolkien, and they failed miserably to live up to it with their inconsistent characters and subpar writing. SO INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTING. I am just grateful that the LOTR movies were made before these entertainment tech giants could buy it off and turn it into a mass profiting, politically correct, ridiculous, pointless action packed drama like The Hobbit or Rings Of Power. I hope they learn from this and tread lightly next time they try to produce a story from this revered author.
