It's overall enjoyable to watch though you might be doing other things like playing on your phone because it is fairly slow paced. The beginning felt like a PSA on stranger danger and the need to have good friends who use the internet and social media to stalk your love interests. The rest of the movie is decent. I won't go into too much detail but plot twist, things aren't what they seem and the love interest may have nefarious intention. The ending however, is inexcusable in it's abrupt end and poor execution. The classic tropes are there, failure to finish the enemy, failure to keep hold of weapons, failure to assess your surroundings, failure to stick together... All to artificially enhance the drama, tension and "action." The ending really tanked this movie for me.

This movie is like watching a concept and seeing the individual set pieces filmed, then nothing else is added. I felt like I was watching two people move through a series of short film sets. I like the plot but the execution is very shallow. Plus there are unexplained issues such as why some androids go down like regular humans and one is built like a discount T-800. How does one person hold a chain link fence against a horde of charging androids? I could go on and on. This movie could have been much better in a lot of ways but it was still an interesting watch.

Let me first start by saying the hen-pecked meek black man trope is tired. The only time it seems a black man has any authority is when he is backhanding a wench for his money or hustling in the streets. So the movie starts right off by killing off the phone obsessed black stereotype. Then the overbearing black wife stereotype berates the husband for not doing enough to get himself killed also. Then it introduces Racism McRacist as the most stereotypical passive aggressive racist who demands an audience with the black mother--alone. He then proceeds to directly threaten the black man after receiving assistance from the wife. He then follows this up with a Persian cat-stroking level evil monologue while quoting a medical book like it's scripture. All this just for him to come to rely on the black man for defense and then REALLY rely on the black woman as if she's a stereotypical wise black mammy. The black wife puts up zero fight to defend her husband when it matters, only offering a meek one liner; but again he's the weak suburban black father who has money but no appreciable skills so maybe she's looking for a vanilla upgrade. The black women make no immediate attempt to be with the black man and male child as they are exiled and probably condemned. Whatever the black woman's ultimate goal is, her shower scene seemed to imply she'd welcome the canned corn induced jungle-fever, wet dream the white man cooked up in his spare time if all else failed. It seems as though she only switched sides to be on the winning team, and because the plot demanded it; which also makes her the strong black [woman] hero in the process. This movie also plays on the evil white man is a devout Christian trope. And let's not forget that this entire movie is predicated upon a black doctor lying her family's way into a known racist's evil villain lair even after threatening her husband with a shotgun. All because, in spite of their extensive education and finances they have not prepared even a butter knife and crust of bread for survival. Have I mentioned the stereotypes and tropes? AND that ENDING!!! Most unbelievable thing I've ever seen. There would be dinosaurs in Manhattan before something like that happened. Overall the benefit of this movie is that it's generally entertaining and it should at least tempt the average person to prepare even a modicum of survival supplies so you don't have to lie your way into your racist neighbor's villain lair and I guess that's worth something.

A lot of negatives here seem to be missing what the original series was about. Good news! You can still watch it. This is older Raylan with new problems in a community that is not his own. He still swaggering and doing his thing in spite of. I happen to love the black characters and a take on our issues and dynamics. And I fully believe that a man like Raylan could move exactly as shown in the black community. The new big bad ain't no Boyd Crowder by a longshot, but he's a good northern/Midwest analog. Good woman ain't no Ava, but she fits the scenario well. If you like Raylan Givens and just want to see more of him this show will please as he is still doing his thing. Naturally, things will be different but the writing is good as typical, though not as much humor and interconnectivity but it is every bit a Raylan story in as much as Fire in the Hole was a short story to begin with. It led to a great series, and this is a great look at "Old Man Raylan." Edit: I absolutely agree that Willow's voice is chalkboard screeching cats annoying. I hate to come at anyone like that but I'd have a hard time listening to my own daughter if she sounded like that.
