I don’t know why I keep convincing myself that Christopher Nolan makes good movies. “ Oppenheimer “ might be his worst movie to date. This movie was about an hour too long. The plot holes were all over the place.
*spoiler alert rant*
For example it’s repeated several times that Oppenheimer is from NYC but loves New Mexico. Yet, the movie never explains why or how he ended up in New Mexico in the first place .
Oppenheimer’s brother Frank is shown a few times and gets brought up a lot in conversations during the movie. Yet no one really explains anything about their relationship. The only thing I could figure out is the Frank was a commie, a scientist and Oppenheimer didn’t like his wife, who was also a commie.
Oppenhiemer’s mistress Jean comes and goes. We see them both naked 3 times and having sex two times . We get it they’re having an affair.
His wife is a terrible mother and a drunk. Again no explanation why she is like this. His commie best friend and his wife at one point are raising Oppenheimer and his wife’s son. Huh?
Then his commie friend is trying to shake him for info.
I’m still trying to find out why people are making such a big deal about Robert Downey Jr. and Emily Blunt performances. RDJ is just playing being in a bad mood and Blunt is just weepy and moody the entire movie.
There’s another scene in the movie where Rami Malik plays some kind of whistleblower at a congressional hearing. I didn’t see him at all in the movie until that point except for one little scene where he is holding a clipboard, but doesn’t say a word. I don’t even know who this guy is, yet I’m supposed to care?
Matt Damon screams a lot. I felt like he was phoning this performance in.
And don’t get me start on the Einstein they cast in this movie. No offense to the actor, but an Einstein mask from Party City would look more convincing as Einstein than this guy.
I’m glad that I waited to watch this at home and didn’t waste my money at the movies seeing this garbage. Christopher Nolan , you will never ever get another penny from me again. Your movies are utter and complete garbage.
