American Dirt is a novel that keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next to Lydia and Luca. The critics chief complaint seems to be that the author is not hispanic and not a migrant. If that is the standard, John Steinbeck should not have written Grapes of Wrath because he was not a tenant farmer. A good story is a good story no matter who is doing the telling.
