This movie had incredible potential but failed to deliver, in my opinion, at every turn.
Maybe it's because of all the time jumps, I wasn't able to fully feel each moment in time that they shared. Andrew Garfield had some good scenes, and his character really came through in the delivery scene. But otherwise, many times it just fell flat.
The main character often comes across as selfish. And in truth, we know very little about her other than her ambition and grief for her father.
Andrew also has so many holes in his story line. We see and sense how deeply he loves Al, but we also know so little about him. I don't think he has a single friend in the film. Where's his mom? Why is he generally so awkward? Does he ever give Al's friend weetabix?
Their relationship is skimmed over. Often showing some scenes where they're doing on dates, but it's so brief that there's no substance. This movie just felt empty.
There's a daughter, but we barely see them living happily as a family. Or the family being enough for Al. It'd everything to Tobias and he just gives off simp vibes agreeing to everything.
The only selfless thing Al does is agree to try/have a baby.
Not a single year was shed, and this is coming from someone who would cry if one ant got lost from the trail of ants. Better as background noise in opposed to sitting with popcorn. Pity.
