I am currently on my Boyfriends email account..
so this review is coming from a woman.
I didn’t experience sexual abuse as a child, as far as I’m aware of! My sisters however did. By my father! (They had a different father who wasn’t in the picture) myself and my siblings also experienced a very terrifying, dysfunctional and concerning childhood.
I am now 25 turning 26 and still dealing with the trauma from it all! Each birthday of mine is a year I become more wise and aware of how abnormal my upbringing was, and although at a young age I was oblivious to how bad things actually were, I felt alone. I felt that things at the time must’ve been normal seeing as every time I spoke out about it, to a friend, to an adult.. to a teacher it was always brushed off. And nothing was done.
This story is unbelievably heartbreaking.
A lot of the emotions expressed in this book is so very familiar, I felt as if at times I was the one writing it.
This book has been an eye opener in some aspects of my life. In the past I have struggled to understand my sisters lack of eagerness to reunite with us siblings (us who were the innocent) the second hand guilt myself and my younger siblings have felt because of what our father has done specifically to them.. the division it has caused! The TRAUMA! This book has finally given me answers that no one has been able to give me.
Although throughout my childhood I had felt alone, and I can’t go back to fix that! The little girl inside me, finally feels heard.
These terrible things do happen in households! Back in the day it was always dismissed or brushed under the carpet, but now! In 2024 people are speaking up, more and more each day.
This lady is so Insanely brave for speaking out about HER story! Even after many years of the abuse taking place. You are admirable.
I feel this book and “Katherine’s” story was shared in hopes to uplift those who feel silenced! And to prove to those that Justice can be served.
It exposes the cracks within the Australian government and the system! In hopes that something can change in the sake of all the children in their care.
It encourages every adult, to listen to their children! Not just yours but all the children.
To take their thoughts and feelings seriously.
This book is not for the faint hearted! This is a real story about things that have happened and unfortunately happen more often than we realise.
Such a tearful, heartfelt read.
Thank you Katherine for sharing your story.
My best wishes to you and your family through out the rest of your life!
