As a 51 years young guy who watched the first matrix I enjoyed resurrection quite a lot. As some comments explain it brings some nostalgia for a movie era that is gone. People who watches resurrection looking for the feeling of the first matrix wont find it here, and I think is for two main reasons among many more.
First as I mentioned already is a sequel, the first movie introduce us to a new concept, a new idea forged in the early digital era, when we used cellphones to talk, and were not stuck to our face 24-7, when a high definition tv used to cost $10,000 dollars or more, when the rithm of life was slightly slower. We used to enjoy the wait for a movie release, or would wait three days for a netflix dvd to watch a movie.
Today, everything is instant gratification, sex, fast images and 8k images overload our brains, and matrix resurrections cant fulfill that completely.
If Die hard, Rambo or Terminator would come out right now, it would be a total flop, it would be too slow, to cynical, to our delicate society right now.
And when Avatar comes in a few months, it also will be a flop, because it wont be "good enough" "boring" "too predictible"
We are too deep into the Matrix, and the feed it give us is wearing down.
