Moving, truthful and painful. I'm only a third of the way through it and was compelled to skip to the end. I do that now with stories that grip me so deeply that the characters somehow take root in my heart. In my late 60's, I lost my grip on an academic career decades ago. You'd be surprised how much a cultural historian and a dancing girl have in common. Though there is also a deep gulf between us, these days I live so much in the imaginal realm. This is a pretty useless review, but if you're reading it, dammit, just get the book instead!
