I loved this when I saw this 20 years ago as a kid. Having seen this again recently, this just proved to me again that a good story is fun but a great story is timeless. Everything here holds up: the sets, the effects, the lines... they all aged well. This for me is one of the most perfect films of all time.

This is one of the best things that came out of 2020! Through the fresh lens of a young woman’s coming of age, this film subtly highlights many of society’s ills and makes them plain. Opposing world views are juxtaposed against each other and the viewer is left to decide where they stand. This acquits itself well on its own as a detective mystery, better as a coming-of-age story, but what makes it stand apart is the power it bequeathes to the viewer — to think for one’s self, to decide for one’s self and to be one’s self.

Don’t get me wrong. I love action movies but all the high-octane stuff in this production is just sooooooo overdone, it became such a tortuous bore after a while. I mean, these adrenaline-pumping scenes should add to the experience, not detract from it by getting in the way of the story, which is what happened here. This is all flash. All bang. Watch if you need the noise. Skip otherwise.
