I was six years old when A Summer Place was released. I love this movie. The scenery is spectacular. The acting is wonderful, though the dialog is downright silly at times. It's a great portrayal of the tremendous differences in the way boys and girls were raised. Girls from affluent families went to finishing schools where they mostly learned to give parties and look wealthy. Boys got an actual education. Girls bore the brunt of the blame for any unmarried sexual activity. And pregnancy? That especially was the fault of the girl. That movie makes me grateful that the pill gave us sexual equality. Still, it's a guilty pleasure.
