First, ignore most of the one-star reviews. You'll notice 5 stars from people who finished the series, and one star from people who stopped at episode 2 or 3.
I don't normally binge shows and this one kept me watching until 3 am. Honestly, it's the best of the Haunted series so far.
80% of the sex and gore people complain about are in episodes 1 & 2 and it's disturbing and haunting. It is horror people, not Sesame Street.
I love horror and that was intense. That said, it's a slap in the face that is needed to set the pace for the rest of the Usher family.
The show is brilliantly written, compelling and woven together although it does have a slow start. By the third or fourth episode you really get drawn into what's actually happening who the characters are and what happened in the past.
The storytelling is complex and jumps between three time periods so it's a show where you'll want to pay attention and even go back and watch it again for details you missed. That said from beginning to end it's brilliantly tied together, the acting is excellent, and if you are an Edgar Allan Poe fan there's a lot of great references. I, in particular, loved how they worked in the Raven and the pit and the pendulum near the end of the series.
It gets a little heavy-handed directly at the end which I'm fine with but will urk some. (I expected the negative reviews to be about that honestly)
I loved this series and hope they continue.
