I think it’s a close runner-up to their next album, ‘Siren’, as being Roxy Music’s greatest studio album. The first side of ‘Country Life’ is especially compelling and dense with creative touches as Manzanera’s clever guitar licks provide the perfect foil to Ferry’s driving melodies and vocals. The album closes with Prairie Rose, one of the finest, if least expected, tributes to Texas I’ve ever heard.
