I couldn't wait to watch this film. I had been waiting since the days where Johnny Depp was in talks to be cast as Freddie Mercury. I went to the opening in Toronto last night and before I speak about the actual movie, I wanted to say thank you to Brian May, Roger Taylor and the producers for making the experience so great. They had a photo booth with wigs (70's Queen style) and even a thank you note from the team who worked on the project for the fans. Thank you for that! That was a great way to start the night!
Now to talk about the movie, well I am a huge Queen fan and I brought my husband along who would never ever watch this movie if it wasn't for me and we both ended up loving it. After the movie, he started to ask me questions about the band and their music, which was great!
I would give this film 8/10 from an objective point of view but 9/10 from a Queen fan's point of view. Why 9/10, honestly, the Live Aid scene was phenomenal! But, (spoiler) the movie ends so abruptly after that I felt like something was missing.
The acting was fantastic from everyone in the cast! Rami must win best actor for this and I am hopeful that Gwilym should at least get a nomination for best supporting actor. My most favourite aspect of this film is how beautifully it was shot. There was some wonderful angles that made you feel like you were at a Queen concert. And for someone like me, who was born 4 days after Freddie died, it made that possible. Thank you for the wonderful film. I can't wait to watch it again on Sunday with my family in IMAX!
