I rediscovered this as I was holing up at home during this pandemic, getting bored with my usual musical selections, and I remember why I loved it in the 90's. I will say yes, the CD has a haunting and melancholy quality...even bordering on darkness. And that being said I feel emotion around almost every song. From "Rest for the Weary", imagining a couple working until they collapse, the hardship, just trying to make it....to "Medicine Man", about a doctor mourning a lost love and trying to still heal others--this might well be my favorite song on the CD even though it makes me cry every single time I hear it (yeah, I am a crier for sure)--
to "The Things We Handed Down", a poignant look forward to what their baby will be like once born....I find the melodies to be beautiful and the lyrics to be heart-touching and at the same time intelligent and thoughtful. So, for anyone looking for a nugget from the past to enjoy, I highly recommend this. I've been playing the hell out of it for 2 months now!
