A simply fantastic docu-series. These days the 'reality' TV seems plastered with garbage. I'm not sure at what point producers began feeling as if they needed to add imitation reality to shows, but I can't stand the majority of 'reality' TV any more.
Lennox Hill is entirely opposite. This show is a visceral look at reality in our healthcare system. It's emotional, hard to watch yet simultaneously exciting and jovial. Humanizing our Doctors and medical staff while showing behind the scenes, what they go through, decisions they make, handling outcomes with family, celebrating with family, their studies and constant drive to improve care is astonishing.
Our healthcare system has a critical psychological flaw for those of us engaged in it. I'm a career firefighter/EMT who has spent my time thus far in busy systems. We take a vested interest in our patients, we care (at least I have) about the outcomes. Yet, my experience has been we respond at the drop of a hat to somebody's worst day in their life, we make an impact on that day, we pass the patient off, then we typically don't hear anything. This series for me has been eye opening to what happens after we pass our patients to the next caregiver. I have the utmost respect for our clinicians and specialists, pre-hospital and hospital care are two very different animals as they elude to in one episode with a paddle boarder and one of the Dr's is present for the accident.
From somebody who's seen the reality, this show gets it. The producers get it. The reality is enough, they don't add garbage on top with cheesy music or cliff hanging edits creating a frustrating viewing experience. This is a truly enjoyable show, it isn't frustrating, it doesn't have cliff hangers and it's an ode to the professionals who work to advance our care daily while subsequently paying homage to the families and patients who passed on. Beautifully done and bravo to the production staff, I look forward to many more episodes.
