Embarrassingly bad. I've been a lover of film for many years. I can't remember a film so hopelessly useless as this one. I fought off dozing more than once. A slow death of 2 hours. Sorry. Wish I could find something positive to say.

Powerfully emotional trip into the life of people who seem to exist only to exist, seemingly valueless, yet more real than the evil that surrounds them. The last image you see in this film is Zain, unforgettable. Great film. Masterful storytelling, unflinchingly real.

I wonder about the lesson Marwen longs to teach us. Sometimes difficult to follow, but yet teaching about drugs, reality vs fantasy and the path we take when we struggle to climb out of the hole life sometimes digs for us. There is victory in self-realization. Logic wins and the sun finally shines on our protagonist. Needs some polish, but succeeds through its simplicity.
