They're doing a grand job. Let's be Frank right off the bat, nothing on screen could ever compare to those books. They were the most immersive and consuming creation of a universe (or many) that I've ever encountered on paper. Characters were rich and deep, the scale and scope was staggering, it was like Pullman had handed the reader their own subtle knife, and in we went. That will never be matched by moving images and sound. But, and it's a big but, I'm enjoying it for what it is. I loved the airships looking like dull buses inside. Pan is much as I imagined him, the alethiometer is beautiful and the lead actress is quite convincing as the superficially ordinary Lyra. My big review is now going to be cut short by a phone which isn't letting me see what I'm writing. It's your lucky day folks. All in all, a good effort, lower your expectations, its a TV show!
