Many may look up Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and dismiss it because of its low box office earnings, or popular reviews online, but overall you can somewhat dismiss the several minor plot holes and differentiation between the movies and books to enjoy the movie, as I did.
I will admit that the movie was not perfect, but having watched this movie when it came out when I was younger made me sort of want to relate to Jake's character, and I still hold this movie in high regards even after watching it years later without as much juvenile naivety.
(SPOILERS AHEAD, also apologies for very long review, I am a rambler)
I watched the movie before I even knew there were books, so I didn't have much to say about the peculiarity change between Emma and Olive, as I could generally see Olive and Emma having their peculiarities in the movie, it made more sense and just felt right. Eva Green was a perfect casting choice for the role of Miss Peregrine, in large contrast to the elderly Miss Peregrine depicted in the books, this one being more active, and a more lovable and respected character of the film.
My problems with the movie are limited, only a few confused bits that make no sense in comparison to dialect during the movie. Example, Emma tells Jake that once the Cairnholm loop closes, they will begin to age quickly, and revert to what age they would be if they weren't in a loop. She states that this aging would occur over the course of a few minutes, yet, when the Cairnholm loop ACTUALLY closes, they stay their same ages despite being forward in the year 2016. Also, why would Miss Peregrine entrust a child with the responsibility of killing a Hollow daily (hence the death of Victor)? Furthermore, why did she make a loop with a hollow, or MOVE TO AN ISLAND WITH A HOLLOW in the first place?
All this being said, the movie, to me, was a great example of fantastical mystery with thrill, the casting was great, and I know I most likely won't convince people to like it, but this is easily one of my all time favorites.
