Great movie. This movie isn’t meant to be exciting or jump out of your seat scary… it’s a psychological thriller, and I very good one at that. It’s meant to be confusing enough to provoke deep thought about the overall meaning of the movie. It’s so much more than just a boring old movie. *Spoilers > It dives into the mind of a women who’s done something terrible, and how the guilt of her knowing she’s a monster has only lead her to become an even scarier monster. This isn’t about a ghost. It’s about a women, a murderer, with serious psychological issues and her story of the guilt, shame, struggle and reality of her acceptance and denial of the monster she is. In the beginning of the movie, she was in denial and completely blocked out what she had done, but then, her fathers passing provoked the monster she had ignored. Thus, causing her to tell her daughter that she is Alice, draw on the back of her homework, bring a bunny to her door, hallucinate, and so on. She eventually went crazy and ”Alice" who was actually a segment of her imagination at that point, fully took over and lead her daughter to the end of the cliff (her being Alice) and she was unable to stop herself. So, she was the one with her daughter walking to the cliff. She was no longer in denial and the monster inside of her was not only torturing her, but also causing her to be a monster. This was a deep dark look into the mind of a seriously dark, crazy and delusional person.
