I bought the game with my husband the day it came out. We were so excited to be able to play the co op option! Except there is NO co op. Player two does nothing. There is nothing good about the co op at all. It would be ok if player two could at least have some control over the island, but it is only player one who gets to do everything. The game itself is fun for one person, but the co op was falsely advertised. There are some very tedious loading screens throughout the game, you are constantly being told what you just picked up/fished/dug up even if you've picked up that item a million times already, and it's so hard trying to make money because Nintendo purposely lowered the spawn rates for uncommon fish and bugs. Not to mention the tedious DIY process you go through every time you craft something. The game is very slow paced and it's made me go back to Animal Crossing New Leaf where you could at least make decent progress and Bells. Overall, pretty disappointed in the game.
