I had just finished the book in the morning and watched the movie. The book is SAVAGE and RAW and real.
The movie tries the best to bring in all elements of the book. But I felt the movie was too crammed. Adarsh's (Balram) acting was brilliant in its own sense. But while I was reading the book, I didn't expect a person like his frame portraying the role.
I would have liked, if the movie were to be made taking inspiration from the plot and ran its own course rather than cramming elements.
There are two scenes in particular that stood out for me.. (Spoiler alert)
One where Balram is asked to sign paper. His smile that encapsulates his fate, yet rage and he has to mask all of it to show that he has respect for the master. That close-up shot was straight up BRILLIANT.
Second, was when in the middle of the street he is yelling at the lady who comes and begs. I think that scene needed courage to be done in the middle of the chaotic street and his annoyance is truly justified.
If you are an okay reader, I urge you to read first and then watch the movie.
