The first half of the book directly addresses ancient Roman culture. This is great for history junkees who love to read the great books. In the second half of the book, Augustine is gifted by God in the way that he can clearly articulate many different complex theological topics. For Christians, this book clearly states the difference between the city of man and the City of God. The city of man focuses on the love of man, whereas the City of God focuses on the love of God. From talking about perfect numbers to the comprehensiveness of God’s character, the City of God is a wonderful book to read for people who are striving to learn more about and strengthen their Christian faith.
