I have been watching The Social for the past year or so since I left my job.
I likely will no longer be tuning in after Ms. Allen expressed her views without repercussions about the “privileged white bullies” who play hockey.
Yes, it is an expensive sport that not everyone can afford. But minor hockey is an amazing community. So many parents donate outgrown equipment to families who can’t afford to gear up their growing kids. There are groups like KidSport and Jumpstart that so many families support with cash donations or equipment.
Most hockey associations have programs in place to help financially challenged families keep their kids in hockey if they can’t afford it.
And on the bullying topic, our experience over the past decade + has been that the hockey boys stick up for other kids like crazy. They are so loyal. I love the hockey boys in our community and I know that they take care of their teammates, friends and schoolmates at school, in the neighborhood and on or off the ice.
