The stereotypical modern Netflix movie. Spend all their money acquiring yesterday's brand-name actors, then write them a script that wouldn't be sufficient for a middle-school play. The characters are boring to annoying, the plot is never actually explained apart from hinting at "domestic extremist terrorists", and no explanation as to why things happen or how.
Also, the blatant racism by the script writers AND PRODUCERS in this movie is insane. Here's the direct quote from the movie: "I'm asking for you to remember that if the world falls apart, trust should not be doled out easily to anyone, especially WHITE PEOPLE". Try flipping that statement around and watch your world disintegrate.
If they had removed the character "Ruth" from this show, this movie would have been upgraded from a 1/10 to a 3/10. She's just rude to everybody she interacts with, she leads her father around like he's on a leash, and she's obtained an unexplained gift of super-perception. At least Amanda's character has an arc explaining why she's an unpleasant person, but Ruth is just instantly unbearable. The other two adult dude characters in this show are just wet sponges that have to get told to breathe by Amanda and Ruth. I honestly have no idea why they were even included, they have no impact on the "story".
Honestly, the most compelling characters in this story were the bucks and flamingos. These characters said nothing, were trying to be helpful to the humans (apparently), and got some good exercise running/flying around. Maybe we'll get a spin-off series about them that's equally terrible.
If you want an infinitely better low-budget "stuck inside" story, just go watch '10 Cloverfield Lane' or 'The Whale'. This movie was a waste of 90 minutes, and just proves why none of the streaming services are profitable.
