Great movie and performances by Mel and Wahlburg. I thought it was going to be a feel good movie about finding faith and how an unlikely priest reached those others couldn't. But it really wasn't. It had that aspect but also much more. Was nice to see a movie not shy away from faith as so many of us have had life changes and healing through our faith that the avoidance of it sometimes seems disingenuous. This movie also doesn't sugar coat the characters to make them perfect after they find faith. They are real characters with inappropriate responses and bad language. This film is based on a Catholic experience but as a Christian, I can still appreciate the character's journey.. I decided to review because of the professional reviews being so wrong.
