if i could give this film zero stars i would. I am truly dissapointed to see what disney did do the beloved classic of mulan and how they massacred the beloved animated classic. Liu yifei shows no emotion in any of her scenes, and the movie that was supposed to "realistic" and "grounded" was instead a Bollywood karate kid on steroids that decided to add witches and phoenix's and people catching arrows and kicking arrows midair. The reason i think they got rid of all the cartoon elements and comedic elements such as mushu and songs was instead to insert cartoony slow-mo and comedic timing such as the arrow kicking i mentioned earlier. |And when the film tries to be funny in the slightest bit, it comes off as cringe inducing and sad. Don't go into this movie expecting a meaningful, courageous attempt at a movie which we all once loved. Go into it thinking its a comedy and a movie which says if you're a woman you can do anything but only if you have super powers that make you wall run and jump on walls and have reflexes of a cat 3x and go super Saiyan and absolutely destroy an entire army. And if that sounds like its a good movie, the action is lackluster. Go watch old boy the action is amazing in that and it has an all Asian cast. This movie is also a disappointment to Asian culture and the origins of the story of hua Mulan. I can't seem to find an upside to this film. Its a disappointing movie.
