I had the pleasure when as a young Royal Naval Rating of meeting the Hon J.P.W. Mallalieu (whilst he was Minister for the Royal Navy) when he toured HMS Kent (D12) whilst she was undergoing a refit in H.M. Dockyard Chatham in early 1966. The Minister broke away for the protocol of a ships tour (with attending officers) and came down in the mess I was billeted in (3D mess) during morning Stand Easy, to speak personally to those of us who were undergoing our sea training as Apprentices. A wonderful man, and still very much "one of us". Lest we Forget
