While the story is well done and the game contains lots of fun things to do, they completely destroyed the experience with their lack of attention to game mechanics. Specifically the character controls and combat is slow to respond, clunky, and buggy. For example if you jump over a wall, big or small, most of the time you get stuck on the top of the wall, running parallel to it rather than jumping over. In order to get off the wall, you have to completely stop and wait for your character to reset itself and then you can jump off.
Parkour is terrible too. You're supposed to be able to climb most things in the game however there are a ton of places where you'll just stop being able to go up and have to either jump off and start again, or traverse sideways until you can find your way up again. That might seem like it's ok, but there are a lot of places where it just doesn't make sense. I even got stuck on a table for a full two minutes, unable to jump off of it. I smashed the space bar, ran around, tried crouching, etc. Nothing worked, then all of a sudden boom i'm off.
Calling your mount is really dumb. Press X to call your mount while running and you jump on as it approaches (Why!?!) that would be ok I guess except if you continue to run, half the time the mount gets in front of you and just continues to run with you chasing it trying to mount.
Combat is pretty bad too, especially when facing multiple opponents. You'll be swinging at one guy and then all of a sudden you're swiping at air in a completely opposite direction.
Game crashes a LOT. I've updated all drivers, but it's still really bad. It should be noted that I played Oddsey and didn't experience any of these issues.
I'm sufficiently worried about Mirage if Valhalla is this bad after 2 years. I can only imagine how bad they've messed that one up trying to be sophisticated in their approach to gameplay. The fact that IGN gives this an 8/10 and PC Gamer gives a 92% is mind boggling. Maybe for the story, but as a AAA title, these issues should be non-existent.
