For the 2021 Trilogy:
What a disappointment... let me explain.
This is still a PS2 game to it's core. It's literally only been enhanced with somewhat improved visuals. The physics have not been improved at all, some of the character models have been improved, but then some of the side characters still look horrendous, as if they didnt actually take the full time to improve everything. There are many corners cut! The music library has been decapitated almost completely. The Aiming system is pretty laughable, even though RS touted GTA V like improvments. There is still no cover system in GTA 3 and Vice City. You just run around like a goofball with no way to take cover. All death animations are still goofy (people flop over and die in the air) etc. You can't pop tires in GTA 3 (something they could have added)? The menu sounds for every game are based off only San Andreas now. GTA 3 and V.C. unique menus and sounds are completely tossed.
On top of the plethora of cut corners, the performance is laughable at best. The frame rates are all over the place! In performance mode it will dip as low as 30 fps. And be anywhere between 30-60fps throught the entire playing time. This makes for a very jarring experience. This is a very lazy way to call this a "definitive" edition of GTA. I've played Spiderman Miles Morales on PS5 with an open world that has a LOT more going on with it, more dense, more NPCs, more particles, better draw distance, improved animations WITH Ray tracing etc... Why is this not native 4K 60fps on every console? This is literally a PS2 game! 30fps is all they could achieve in "Fidelity Mode"??? This port is very lazy and NOT worth $60 if you ask me.
Enough of the negative now... what's good about it? If you liked GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas, This is exactly that with some visual upgrades and higher resolution. Nothing more. I don't think the asking price is worth $60 for a resolution bump that doesn't even hit 4K 60fps...
If they have the balls to call it "Definitive Edition"... Go take a look at Mafia: Definitive Edition and take notes Rockstar. This should have been called "Remastered", Not Definitive Edition.
