WARNING SPOILERS... I feel like the reviews I read before watching the first episode some how missed the point of the underlying premise of this first episode, Dexter has tried to move past his serial killer personality and has developed coping mechanisms to enforce this. Running with the deer gave him the thrill of the chase and not pulling the trigger himself showed that he was still in control, to have that taken away from him by someone that the writers wanted us to be able to instantly identify as a person that season 1 to 8 would definitely have seen under Dexter's knife is a fantastic way for Dexter to re-emerge on our screens. I look forward to seeing the contrast between Jim's peaceful 10 year existance and the Dexter we all know and love.
