Brilliant, and I don’t use that word lightly. Funny, and at times it is really laugh out loud: it is also bitter and at times deeply moving. I found it difficult to get into at first, so if you don’t get into it don’t give up on it. Episode four changed all that for me. I went back to the start and started to watch it again. Now I am addicted.
Charlotte Ritchie plays George, who has not yet got the confidence to openly come out. When she does it is hilarious. Mae ( played by Mae Martin is a real gem) is part Tigger (Winnie the Pooh) and part Bart Simpson, and desperate to be accepted by George’s friends. But she is also an ex drugs addict who is struggling. The partnership of the two leading actresses is good and this is one of the shows great strengths. Lisa Kudrow is superb as Mae’s mother, as is Ritu Arya as Lava-robot girl. Good supporting cast who also add to the appeal of the show.
One of the best comedies I have ever seen.
