Definitely not a typical Winger album. Sadly the best songs are the "singles" and that's not saying a lot. The only "rocker" Stick The Knife In And Twist misses the mark. Appropriately they named the album SEVEN as it's similar to IV as most of that album is forgotten. Though IV has a bad ass album cover on both sides.
Now some of the songs on SEVEN are mature sure, but no rockers to keep us hard rockers satisfied, unlike BETTER DAYS COMIN' and arguably their masterpiece KARMA. WINGER have always been a band of damn good musicians bar none. As much as they have been dismissed as just another hair band, WINGER have honed their chops and Reb Beach has definitely earned his place as a lead guitarist for them, Whitesnake, Dokken and solo.
PULL came out after grunge, Beavis and Butt-Head and Metallica destroyed the hair scene and their reputation which Lars to this day has never apologized for, but James has. PULL remains a testament of a band reduced to 3 members and still pulled off not only a phenomenal piece of work but still holds its own in writing, producing as well as mixing!๐ค๐ป
Now a lot of fans may dismiss my review here but after 2 stellar albums in a row and again, KARMA being close to a masterpiece, especially with the album closing song Witness, SEVEN was a let down. Though It All Comes Back Around does do it some justice. That being said, WINGER is best LIVE! You cannot deny their energy, commitment and their enjoyment of being on stage together. This band was meant to play and play HARD!๐ค๐ป๐๐ธ
