I loved it. The animation was absolutely beautiful, the story was good, pacing was good and I thought the soundtrack was also well done. I really do not understand the complaints. I wish there was a tiny bit more of Hera and Wulf in flashbacks but that would have made the run time longer, which I'm sure people would complain about. As for the Lors of the Rings there isn't supposed to be a full connection. Those characters weren't born yet, except the leves and wizards which are not involved. There are TONS of Tolkien stories that have zero to do with the Hobbits etc.
