I feel like James Gunn(a professional screen writer!) nerfed this movie on purpose so that Superman would lose his place as the king of DC(and all superheroes) so that Gunnโs tv show Peacemaker would stand out more.
That has to be the only explanation. I see no other reason why he would write such on the nose, tell-donโt-show, abysmal drivel.
Superman behaves like a 12 year old boy, losing his temper and whining at every turn.
The once stoic and larger than life hero is reduced to a joke and Lex Luthor doesnโt fair much better.
The โsmartest man in the worldโ has chance after chance to kill Superman (something he claims to want to do in the film) and refuses to do so so that the plot can happen.
Supermanโs Kryptonian parents are turned into copies of the Viltrumites from a far better show, Invincible, and Lexโs master plan is to bark orders to henchmen pushing buttons on a computer, which in turn relays fight moves to a clone of Superman, who in turn uses those relayed moves to fight the superhumanly fast Man of Steel. RIGHT.
I feel sorry for the cast, they did the best they could.
This movie feels like a slap in the face to all fans of this over 80 year old character.
Kal-El/Clark Kent/Superman is my favorite character in all of fiction and although I havenโt always loved each iteration of the character, Iโve never thought anyone purposely tried to ruin him or just truly did not understand him at a fundamental level before.
I refuse to believe Gunn doesnโt understand him. I think he just has no respect for the character and wants audiences to lose that respect as well. If that was his ultimate goal, he halfway succeeded. I still and always will love and respect Superman. I hate and have zero respect for this tainted simulacrum.
