I haven’t read the book yet, so my feedback is just based on the movie. I don’t think domestic violence was portrayed here. The only part that could be considered abuse is when Ryle bit Lily. The oven part? That was an accident. The stairs? Also an accident. She was chasing Ryle, trying to get him to talk about how he found out she was hiding secrets. For me, Lily was also at fault. She kept important things from Ryle, like not mentioning Atlas owned the restaurant until they went back. How hard is it to say your ex is around? Why didn’t you throw away the paper with his number? Why lie about your past and your tattoo? Then suddenly, she’s the victim? Sorry, but this is just my honest take based on the movie.
