I knew this movie existed but didn't know what it was about. Instead of doing research, I decided to just watch it because of all the new attention concerning the word "Antebellum" as it pertained to the Bachelor, Chris Harrison, and Rachael Kirkconnell.
The movie quickly drew me in and kept me focused on the subject matter. Then the switch to the modern view, and then the twist which had me freaking me out in my head. The end of the movie was damn near perfect execution. I am very surprised this movie did not create more of a discussion due to the insane social trends over the past three years.
We live in a world that something like this could very well happen, and it just might be happening. It disgusts me that it is 2021 and the United States has not evolved much past the Civil War.
I remember being a child back in the 1970s and even at that time prejudice, hate, and racial violations just didn't mean much to me because I treated everyone the same. I had to learn about segregation, prejudice, and hate from places like people I met through socially, religion, politics, and people in powerful positions from as low as Law Enforcement to the President of the United States.
This world sickens me and no matter what, All Lives Matter to me.
Janelle Monai was amazing, as was the entire cast. Great movie and truly deserved to be recognized at the Oscars.
